Maintenance and improvement work on the railways in the Stockholm-Mälardalen region may result in parts of the railway network being fully or partially closed during different periods. Here, we list the major track works that will affect Mälartåg's train traffic in the future

Planned traffic changes

Maintenance and improvement work on the railways in the Stockholm-Mälardalen region may result in parts of the railway network being fully or partially closed during different periods. Here, we list the major track works that will affect Mälartåg's train traffic in the future

The railways in Stockholm-Mälardalen are continuously being maintained and improved. This means that parts of the railway network periodically need to be completely, or partially shut down.

The information about planned track work is preliminary, exactly how the trains will run during this time is determined in more detail closer to that period.

Please note that travel time may be longer than usual when trains are replaced by buses.

Track work - Month by month 2025


April

Katrineholm-Hallsberg

Period: April 18 (from 02:00) – April 22 (02:00)

Affected route: Hallsberg-Vingåker-Katrineholm-Stockholm

All trains will be canceled between Katrineholm and Hallsberg/Vingåker. Buses will replace all canceled trains.

It is important to keep you updated about your journey on mälardalstrafik.se or in the Mälardalstrafik app.  

Uppsala-Storvreta/Tierp

Period: April 25 (noon) – April 27 (afternoon)
April 26 (morning) – April 27 (morning)

Affected route: Uppsala-Tierp-Gävle

During this weekend, as work north of Uppsala C is completed, all trains between Uppsala and Storvreta will be canceled. From Saturday morning to Sunday morning, the entire Uppsala-Tierp route will be canceled. Buses will replace all canceled trains.

Uppsala-Morgongåva

Period: April 25 (12:00) – April 27 (16:00)

Affected route: Linköping-Norrköping-Eskilstuna-Västerås-Sala-Uppsala

All trains will be canceled between Uppsala and Morgongåva. Buses will replace all canceled trains.

Norrköping/Nyköping-Stockholm

Period: April 30 (noon) – Night of May 5

Affected route: Norrköping-Nyköping-Stockholm

All trains will be canceled on part  of the route due to work on the expansion of Nyköping Travel Center. Buses will replace affected trains Norrköping-Södertälje Syd, where you will change to train.

May

Katrineholm-Hallsberg

Period: May 1 – May 4 

Affected route: Hallsberg-Vingåker-Katrineholm-Stockholm

All trains will be canceled between Stockholm and Hallsberg. Buses will replace all canceled trains on the route Hallsberg-Södetälje, where you change to train.

It is important to keep you updated about your journey on mälardalstrafik.se or in the Mälardalstrafik app.

Additional work: Between April 27 – May 31, track work will also take place on several late evenings/nights on the same route, replacing affected departures with buses between Katrineholm and Hallsberg.

Eskilstuna-Arboga/Örebro C

Period: May 5

Affected route: Örebro-Arboga-Eskilstuna-Stockholm-Uppsala

All trains will be canceled between Eskilstuna and Arboga/Örebro during the daytime. Buses will replace all canceled trains.

Eskilstuna-Kolbäck/Västerås

Period: May 5 – May 27

Affected route: Linköping-Norrköping-Eskilstuna-Västerås-Sala-Uppsala

All trains on the Sala-Västerås-Eskilstuna-Linköping route will be canceled between Eskilstuna and Kolbäck. All trains on the Uppsala-Sala-Västerås-Eskilstuna route will be canceled between Eskilstuna and Västerås. Buses will replace all canceled trains.
