Maintenance and improvement work on the railways in the Stockholm-Mälardalen region may result in parts of the railway network being fully or partially closed during different periods. Here, we list the major track works that will affect Mälartåg's train traffic in the future

The railways in Stockholm-Mälardalen are continuously being maintained and improved. This means that parts of the railway network periodically need to be completely, or partially shut down.

The information about planned track work is preliminary, exactly how the trains will run during this time is determined in more detail closer to that period.

Please note that travel time may be longer than usual when trains are replaced by buses.

November


Hallsberg–Katrineholm

Period: November 21–24
Affected line: Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm

Trains are replaced by buses between Hallsberg and Katrineholm from Friday evening, November 21, until early Monday, November 24.


2026

February

Uppsala–Stockholm

Period: February 7–8
Affected line: Örebro–Eskilstuna–Stockholm–Uppsala
Mälartåg service between Stockholm and Uppsala will be suspended from Saturday, February 7 at 18:00 until Sunday, February 8 at 10:00. Passengers are referred to SL commuter trains and replacement bus services. More information will be available closer to the track work at malardalstrafik.se.


March

Norrköping–Vagnhärad

Period: March 28 – April 6
Affected line: Norrköping–Nyköping–Stockholm
Trains will be replaced by buses between Norrköping, Nyköping, and Vagnhärad from Saturday, March 28 at 00:45 until Monday, April 6 at 14:00 due to track work connected to the construction of the new Ostlänken railway.


April

Hallsberg–Katrineholm

Period: April 3–6
Trains will be replaced by buses between Hallsberg and Katrineholm from Friday, April 3 at 02:00 until Tuesday, April 7 at 02:00 due to switch replacements and bridge work.

Hallsberg–Gnesta
Linköping–Eskilstuna

Period: April 17–19
Affected lines:

  • Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm

  • Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Uppsala

Trains will be replaced by buses between Hallsberg and Gnesta, and between Linköping and Eskilstuna, from Friday, April 17 at 22:00 until Sunday, April 19 at 14:00 due to construction and connection work for new tracks near Katrineholm.


May

Flen–Stockholm
Vagnhärad–Stockholm
Stockholm–Södertälje Syd

Period: May 13–17
Affected lines:

  • Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm

  • Norrköping–Nyköping–Stockholm

  • Örebro–Eskilstuna–Stockholm–Uppsala

Mälartåg’s three lines operating south of Stockholm will be affected by track work in Järna during the Ascension Day weekend. The work is related to the construction of the new Ostlänken railway. All train traffic will be replaced by buses on the routes Flen–Stockholm, Vagnhärad–Stockholm, and Stockholm–Södertälje from Wednesday, May 13 at 22:00 until Sunday, May 17 at 14:00. Replacement buses will only stop at Flemingsberg for the first and last departure of each day.


June

Västerås–Sala

Period: June 7–18
Affected line: Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Sala
Trains will be replaced by buses between Västerås and Sala from Sunday, June 7 to Thursday, June 18 due to track work involving the renewal of switches and rails.

Linköping–Norrköping

Period: June 8–14
Affected line: Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Sala
Trains will be replaced by buses between Linköping and Norrköping from Monday, June 8 to Sunday, June 14 due to track maintenance work.
