Accompanying children

Starting June 1, we are once again raising the age limit for accompanying children from 6 years old to 11 years old inclusive. This year, the Movingo period ticket is also included in the campaign.

Each paying passenger may bring up to two children free of charge, regardless of passenger category. This means you do not need to purchase separate tickets for accompanying children (ages 0–11). However, if you are traveling with more than two children per paying passenger, you will need to purchase youth tickets for the additional children.

Valid for tickets purchased in the Mälardalstrafik app or here at malardalstrafik.se.

For tickets purchased through other sales channels, the regular age limit applies – two children aged 6 and under per paying passenger.

The campaign runs from June 1 to August 31.

Accompanying children with Movingo

The offer also applies to travel with a Movingo season ticket onboard Mälartåg. The ticket must be purchased in our app or here on the website. Additional children beyond two per paying passenger travel at the youth fare.

For travel with other transport operators (local public transport and other regional train services such as SJ and Tåg i Bergslagen), their own terms and conditions for accompanying children apply.

Traveling alone

Children up to 6 years old are not allowed to travel alone on our trains. For older children, it is up to the guardian to assess whether the child can travel independently. Children traveling without an adult must be able to take care of themselves throughout the journey, including in case of travel disruptions.

Onboard the train

On the train, there are spaces to store strollers, larger luggage, as well as a large toilet with a changing table and a smaller toilet.

Strollers

Strollers should be placed in the Flex car. If the designated area is already full, you can, space permitting, place the stroller in the vestibule of the same carriage. In other carriages, there is space for a folded stroller under the luggage racks on the lower levels. If requested by onboard staff, strollers must be folded and stored in the designated area.
