Valid from March 31 th 2025. The terms of purchase enter into force from the day they are published on malardalstrafik.se and apply to purchases completed after this date. For access to previous versions of the terms of purchase, please contact Mälardalstrafik Customer Service. The conditions are translated from Swedish to English. In case of conflict, the Swedish version is always superior to the English version.

1. Applicability
1.1 These terms and conditions of purchase (below ”Terms and conditions of purchase”) applies to the purchase of tickets customers make from Mälardalstrafik Joint-stock company, organization number 556425-0610, with the address Centralplan 3, 111 20 Stockholm (below ”Mälardalstrafik”) which is responsible for the community-financed regional train traffic on five lines under the brand Mälartåg (”Mälartåg”) and the Movingo period ticket (”Movingo”).
1.2 These terms and Conditions of purchase only apply for the purchase of tickets in Mälardalstrafik's sales channels which consists of Mälardalstrafik's own website mälardalstrafik.se and the digital app ”Mälardalstrafik” (”Mälardalstrafik's sales channels”).
1.3 For tickets customers purchase from the local public transport authority in Region Stockholm, Region Sörmland, Region Uppsala, Region Västmanland, Region Örebro County and Region Östergötland (”Mälardalstrafik's owner”), applies to terms and conditions of purchase stated on the website of the respective regional public transport authority.
1.4 When purchasing of travel with Mälartåg or when purchasing a Movingo ticket via sales channels provided by parties other than Mälardalstrafik, the relevant party's terms and conditions of purchase apply.
1.5 Travel with Mälartåg are covered by Mälardalstrafik's general terms and conditions of travel, which are available on Mälardalstrafik's website mälardalstrafik.se.
1.6 For a Movingo period ticket sold in Mälardalstrafik's sales channels and includes another transport operator, the operator's terms and conditions of travel apply on the routes for which the operator is responsible. Current version of each operator's terms and conditions are available on the respective operator's website.
2. Purchase a ticket
2.1 As a traveler, you must have a valid ticket for the entire journey. In case of lack of a valid ticket, the passenger will have to pay a surcharge in accordance with the Act (1977:76) on surcharge in public passenger transport.
2.2 Purchase of tickets are done through Mälardalstrafik's sales channels (see section 1.2 above) alternatively one of Mälardalstrafik's partners and retailers. See section 3 below for more detailed terms and conditions regarding tickets.
2.3 For persons under the age of 18, a guardian's permission is required to purchase a ticket.
2.4 When purchasing a ticket, the customer (passenger or contact person) is solely responsible for the correct order. It is therefore important to check the details in the order prior to making the purchase.
2.5 Purchasing a Movingo period ticket for travel with vehicles from an operator other than Mälardalstrafik, Mälardalstrafik only acts as a dealer and therefore has no responsibility for the performance of these transport services. Complaints and claims of any kind for compensation of delay relating to other transport operators must therefore be addressed to the performing party. However, if the Rail Passenger Rights Regulation applies to your journey, you have the right to turn to any railway company of your choice.
2.6 Seats cannot be pre-booked on Mälartåg but are subject to availability. Mälardalstrafik reserves the right to limit the number of passengers on the train for safety reasons or when it is prescribed by law or regulation.
2.7 In connection with making a purchase in Mälardalstrafik's sales channels, you agree to the terms and conditions of the purchase which we refer to in these terms and conditions.
3. Tickets
3.1 One-way ticket
3.1.1 Which one-way tickets are valid for travel on board Mälartåg is stated in Mälardalstrafik's description of the ticket range at mälardalstrafik.se.
3.1.2 Mälartåg one-way ticket is valid for a specific departure and route with Mälartåg. If the departure is canceled or replaced by bus, the ticket is also valid on the next departure with Mälartåg or designated replacement service.
3.1.3 A composite ticket valid for several consecutive journeys with Mälartåg, of which all have a route longer than 150 kilometers, is to be regarded as a direct ticket. For direct tickets, there is an extended right to rebooking and compensation in case of delays as well as handling of missed connections.
3.1.4 Tickets sold on Mälardalstrafik's website mälardalstrafik.se and in Mälardalstrafik's app are impersonal. In the Mälardalstrafik app, tickets are sold for mobile devices.
3.2 Movingo period and day tickets
3.2.1 Mälardalstrafik offers the Movingo ticket as a period ticket valid for 30, 90 or 365 days and Movingo 5/30 with five-day tickets within the selected 30-day period.
3.2.2 Movingo 30, 90 or 365 days are impersonal and entitles to unlimited travel during the selected period of time on specified routes with Mälartåg, SJ Regional and/or with other transport operator, as well as within or between each county where the ticket is valid. Validity includes the routes, stations and transport operators indicated on the ticket.
3.2.3 Movingo 5/30 is an impersonal ticket and entitles you to unlimited travel for 5 days of your choice (24 hours) within the selected 30-day period on specified routes with Mälartåg, as well as within or between each county where the ticket is valid. Validity includes the routes, stations and transport operators indicated on the ticket. 24-hour tickets which have not been activated will expire when the validity of the 5/30 ticket of 30 days has run its course.
3.2.4 Movingo ticket is valid from 00:00 on the chosen first day of validity until 03:30 on the night after the last day of validity. Single 24-hour ticket as part of the 5/30 ticket is active 24 hours from activation. A Movingo ticket may only be used by one person per journey. You must have a valid ticket for the duration of your trip.
3.2.5 Movingo 30, 90 and 365 days can be lent to any person of your choice during the current traffic day. The lending is carried out by generating a lending code directly in the Mälardalstrafik app. The code is then distributed in any way to the person who is borrowing the ticket, who then activates it by filling it in under the tab "Tickets" in the Mälardalstrafik app. Lent ticket is returned to the person who originally purchased it every day at 03.30. Both the person who lends and borrows a ticket will need the Mälardalstrafik app and create an account which requires BankID.
3.2.6 Lending a ticket can be done for an unlimited number of times, but up to a maximum of
a) three (3) different people when purchasing a 30 or 90-day ticket
b) five (5) different people when purchasing a 365-day ticket
3.2.7 It is not allowed to lend your ticket for financial gain.
4. Payment
4.1 In Mälardalstrafik's sales channels, customers can pay with Swish or credit card. Please note that Mälardalstrafik will not be responsible for the technical platforms for payment. Payment with Swish or credit card, the customer is charged directly.
4.2 Payment is made in Swedish kronor (SEK), including VAT 6%.
5. Receipt and delivery
5.1 Receipts are delivered digitally as a PDF file in the Mälardalstrafik app or as an email attachment.
5.2 Single tickets purchased in the Mälardalstrafik app are delivered as a digital ticket directly to the app. Single tickets purchased in a web browser are delivered as a PDF file and can be viewed in a web browser, as an email attachment on a screen or printed on paper.
5.3 Movingo tickets purchased in the Mälardalstrafik app are delivered directly to the app. Movingo ticket is purchased in logged in mode on Mälardalstrafik.se and delivered to the Mälardalstrafik app by logging in to My Account.
6. Passenger categories
6.1 The passenger pays the full price from the day the passenger has turned 20, provided that the passenger is not entitled to travel at a discounted price.
6.2 The following passenger categories are entitled to travel at a discounted rate:
a) Youth: Youth is a traveler between the age of 7 to 19 years old.
b) Student: A student is considered traveler who is studying at a minimum of75%study pace.
6.3 At ticket inspection, the passenger must be able to prove their identity by presenting a valid ID document. Valid ID documents are passports, Swedish ID documents, the Swedish Migration Agency's LMA card and a national ID card within the EU. Other foreign ID documents are not accepted. Accompanying children are not obliged to present any ID document except in cases where the child's age needs to be proven.
6.4 Students traveling on a ticket at a discounted price must be able to certify studies with a valid student ID with an SL symbol.
7. Traveling with children
7.1 Two children up to and including 6 years of age travel free of charge when accompanied by a passenger with a valid ticket. If the traveler has more children up to and including 6 years of age on the trip, the excess number of children will travel at a discounted price for youth.
7.2 Children up to and including 6 years old are not allowed to travel alone for safety reasons. Mälardalstrafik does not assume any special responsibility for unaccompanied children.
8. Rebooking and repurchase
8.1 One-way ticket
8.1.1 Passengers can rebook their ticket for another departure. Rebooking can be done at mälardalstrafik.se, in the Mälardalstrafik app and via Mälardalstrafik's customer service. Rebooking at mälardalstrafik.se and in the Mälardalstrafik app can be made prior to the departure time of the ticket and only for the same route and passenger category as the original ticket. Rebooking via Mälardalstrafik's customer service can be made no later than one hour before the ticket's departure time and only for the same route and passenger category as the original ticket.
8.1.2 A single ticket can be rebooked three (3) times.
8.1.3 As a general rule, Mälartåg single tickets cannot be repurchased. Passengers who have become acutely ill and are unable to complete their journey can have their ticket refunded upon presentation of a medical certificate. The same applies in the event of death or death of a close relative. Contact Mälardalstrafik's customer service for a ticket refund. A receipt must be shown for repurchase. Repurchase must be made prior to the ticket's departure time.
8.2 Movingo period and day tickets
8.2.1 Movingo 30, 90 and 365 days
8.2.1.1 Before the first date of validity, the Movingo ticket will be refunded at the full purchase value.
8.2.1.2 From the first date of validity and until one third of the ticket's period of validity has passed, refunds are allowed. The repurchase amount is calculated as follows:
a) 30 days: Ticket price x (1 - (3 x number of days the ticket has been valid/total number of days the ticket is valid)).
b) 90 days: Deduction based on a special formula, which implies that the repurchase value of the ticket has expired as of the 70th day of validity.
c) 365 days: Deduction based on a special formula, which implies that the repurchase value of the ticket has expired as of the 340th day of validity.
8.2.2 Movingo 5/30
8.2.2.1 Before the first 24-hour ticket is activated, refunds will be feasible at the full purchase value.
8.2.2.2 After that the first 24-hour ticket has been activated, repurchase of tickets is not possible.
8.2.3 Repurchase in the event of illness
8.2.3.1 Passengers who have become acutely ill and are cannot complete their intended journey can have the remaining value of the Movingo ticket refunded upon presentation of a medical certificate. The same applies in the event of death or death of a close relative. Contact Mälardalstrafik's customer service for a ticket refund. A receipt must be presented.
8.2.4 Repurchase in the event of changes in the range of services
8.2.4.1 If you’ve purchased a Movingo ticket and the range of services valid for the ticket changes after the purchase in such a way that it deviates from what you could reasonably have assumed at the time of purchase and the deviation is of such significant importance to you, then you have the right to have the ticket repurchased even after one third of the ticket's period of validity has passed. You are then entitled to a refund of the part of the ticket price which relates to the period after the withdrawal.
8.2.4.2 This extended right of repurchase does not apply to planned temporary traffic changes communicated in advance or to regular timetable changes, such as the change to summer timetables. In order for Mälardalstrafik's customer service in each individual case to be able to assess whether the requirements for an extended right to repurchase are met, one must be able to account for a written explanation why the change in traffic means that your planned journeys cannot be carried out.
8.2.4.3 In the event of an approved repurchase due to changes in the service supply, the repurchase value is calculated as follows:
a) Movingo 30, 90 and 365 days: Ticket price x (1 - (number of days the ticket has been valid / total number of days the ticket is valid))
b) Movingo 5/30: Ticket price x (1 - (number of activated 24-hour tickets / 5))
9. Customer's responsibility
9.1 The customer is responsible for any traffic fees charged by the telecom operator for sending or receiving data and/or text messages when registering and using Mälardalstrafik's sales channels.
9.2 Passengers using a mobile device as a ticket carrier are responsible for ensuring that the mobile device is in functional order (has a charged battery and is compatible with the websites or apps required to display the ticket, etc.) throughout the journey. The ticket must be ready to be presented in the mobile device throughout the journey.
9.3 Passengers using a printed PDF ticket are responsible for ensuring that it is printed in A4 format to be easy to read and the ticket is stored in such a way that the quality of the print is maintained.
10. Mälardalstrafik's responsibility for the mobile app
10.1 In the Mälardalstrafik app, Mälartåg single tickets and Movingo period tickets are sold as app tickets for mobile devices. The app can be downloaded via the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) by searching ”Mälardalstrafik”.
10.2 Mälardalstrafik gives no guarantee that the Mälardalstrafik app will work or that the customer can purchase a ticket. However, Mälardalstrafik strives to rectify any errors in the service as soon as possible.
10.3 Mälardalstrafik will not bear any responsibility for technical issues which may arise at other party, such as issues with internet access, technical problems with payment service providers, technical problems with the customer's mobile phone or similar.
11. Misuse and blocking of services
11.1 Mälardalstrafik reserves the right to abrogate the agreement entered into regarding the purchase of a ticket and choose not to enter into a new agreement regarding the purchase of a ticket with a passenger, if the passenger is guilty of serious misconduct or repeatedly omits to comply with the provisions of the terms and conditions of purchase and/or Mälardalstrafik's general terms and conditions of travel and fails to make corrections at the request of Mälardalstrafik.
12. Dispute settlement
12.1 Customers who are not pleased with Mälardalstrafik's actions or have claims against Mälardalstrafik are recommended to contact Mälardalstrafik's customer service in the first instance. Contact information derives from mälardalstrafik.se.
12.2 If the parties are able to come to a settlement, the customer has the right to have the dispute tried through alternative dispute resolution in the General Complaints Board (ARN).

Mälardalstrafik's policy is to follow ARN's recommendations.
12.3 Other disputes arising in regard to the terms and conditions of purchase will be settled by the Swedish general courts.
13. Personal data management
13.1 When purchasing a ticket in Mälardalstrafik's sales channels, Mälardalstrafik processes the customer's personal data. During the processing of personal data at mälardalstrafik.se there is information about how Mälardalstrafik processes personal data and about the rights of data subjects under applicable data protection legislation.
14. Entry into force
14.1 The terms and conditions of purchase enter into force on the date on which the terms and conditions of purchase are published on the website mälardalstrafik.se and applies to all purchases carried out after this date. The terms and conditions may be supplemented or replaced on an ongoing basis by special terms and conditions of purchase for certain types of tickets and services provided by Mälardalstrafik.
