As a passenger, it is always your responsibility to purchase and be able to show a valid ticket for your journey on Mälartåg. If you cannot present a valid ticket during a ticket inspection, you will be issued an additional fee of SEK 1,500. The purpose of the additional fee is to ensure fairness between passengers — those who have paid for their trip should not have to cover the cost for those who have not.
For a ticket to be valid, it must meet the following criteria:
- The ticket must be purchased or activated before boarding.
- The ticket must be valid for the specific route and direction, or area/zone.
- The ticket must be valid for the specific departure, or have current time validity.
- Passengers traveling at a discounted fare must be able to present proof of eligibility.
